
Who May Join
The contest is open to all musically-inclined individuals who are Filipinos by birth or citizenship.
Requirements for the Entry:
1. The contents (melody and text/lyric/poetry) of the song must be wholly original.
2. The performance duration of the song must not exceed 4 minutes and 30 seconds including intro and extro.
3. The song entry must be recorded and interpreted well, preferably pre-arranged.
* The contest organizers reserve the right to rearrange the qualifying song entries and to choose and assign interpreters for the launching and for the recording of winning song(s). Participants who will not agree to this shall be automatically disqualified.
4. The text / lyric / poetry must be in Tagalog or English or a combination of both (“Taglish”).
5. Any contestant may submit only one (1) entry. Once he/she has submitted as a composer or writer of text/lyric/poetry, he/she may not submit any other entry whether as an individual or as part of a collaborative effort.
6. The entry must not have qualified for the Finals of, nor have won in, any other song writing competition in the Philippines or abroad.
7. The entry must not have been published, recorded and/or released in the Philippines or abroad.
8. The melody of the work must be performed by the male and female leads/mascots as a single (unison) voice or in sections. Back-up vocal arrangements and/or arrangements for more than one vocal line are not allowed.
9. Accompaniment to the vocal line may consist of more than a single instrument or a combination of instruments.
Format of Entry:
The entry must be submitted in a single packet (long brown manila envelope), containing
a. the duly completed entry form bearing the original signatures of the contestant/s and 2x2 ID photo (with the name of the contestant written at the back)
b. one (1) CD containing only the entry itself. The CD on its face must bear ONLY the title of the entry.
c. seven (7) copies of the text/lyric/poetry containing ONLY the signatures of the composer/s of the melody and writer/s of the text/lyric/poetry. The name/s of the composer and/or writer of the text/lyric/poetry must NOT appear on the printed copy of the text/lyric/poetry.
d. seven (7) typed or printed sheets each containing the following:
I. the Title of the Entry
II. the Name/s of the Composer/s and Writer/s of the text/lyric/poetry
Submission Guidelines:
1. The complete Entry Packet must be delivered or should arrive by mail not later than 6pm of June 19, 2009.
2. The Entry Packet cannot and will not be received on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday.
3. Hand-delivered will only be received during office hours (between 9am and 6pm).

5. Any and all contents of the Entry Packet shall not be returned and shall become property of the Epilepsy Awareness and Advocacy, Inc.
6. Costs of transportation, accommodation, attendance to events and other expenses related to the contest shall be shouldered by the participant.
7. The decision of the board of judges is final.

Screening and Judging:
25% Appropriateness to the theme
(The lyrics of the song must appropriate to the theme. Its message must be effective.)
30% Melody
(The melody must have something special since melody is common to the music of all times and all peoples. We do know that a melody is a series of single tones heard one after another which add up to a recognizable whole. It must have strength and recall.)
20% Harmony
(Harmony refers to the way chords (or groups of simultaneous tones) are constructed and how they follow each other. The originality in songwriting style, technique and skill will apply.)
25% Appropriateness and Creativity in Music and Lyric combinations
(The overall effect of the lyrics with the music must be appealing. Its originality will be a “trademark” and must be suitable as recording and commercial material.)
